My Story
“Supporting loved ones through PCOS & endometriosis taught me that when we stop chasing symptoms and start listening deeper, healing becomes possible.”
Hi, I’m Safia Buh, MS, RD, LDN, WIMI-CP—a registered dietitian and herbalist specializing in women’s health and integrative medicine.
My journey began with personal struggles around body image during high school. In pursuit of “fixing” my body, I turned to restrictive eating and intense exercise, only to find that no amount of control brought peace. When it came time to choose a college major, my father suggested nutrition—a decision that would completely reshape how I viewed health and healing.
As an international student in the United States, I double-majored in nutrition and public health. My first nutrition class opened my eyes to how beautifully intricate the human body truly is. But during that same semester, I began experiencing painful inflammation in my ankles that made walking difficult. Tests revealed inflammatory markers hinting at a possible rheumatoid condition and Hashimoto’s disease. Yet every time I asked how to prevent progression, the answer was the same: “We’ll treat it when it gets worse.”
That moment became my turning point. I knew there had to be more to healing than waiting for symptoms to require medication.
I immersed myself in the study of functional and integrative nutrition, learning how food, stress, and lifestyle can influence the body’s healing capacity. After completing over 1000 hours of clinical training and working as a dietetic intern in a women’s health functional medicine practice, I realized this was the type of care I wanted to offer every patient—care that listens, not dismisses.
Supporting loved ones through PCOS and endometriosis showed me firsthand how small, intentional changes can transform health and quality of life. Today, I find deep fulfillment helping women navigate menstrual disorders, metabolism concerns, fertility challenges, and hormone imbalances through a holistic, root-cause approach.
Outside of my work, I’m passionate about exploring the intersection of nutrition and behavior, reading self-development literature, and moving my body through weightlifting, Pilates, and yoga. I also love cooking and discovering new cuisines from around the world. A lifelong traveler, I’ve explored five continents and am currently learning Spanish on Duolingo. I’m fluent in Arabic and French, and always seeking balance between curiosity and calm.
